ART WALK: The Art of Movement

When many of our visitors think of ART, they may think of paintings, drawings and sculpture. Many of them think of ART as a visual item to be hung over the mantle or displayed on the coffee table. We are pleased to focus this month’s “Student Art” exhibit on the ART of Movement. This is a ONE NIGHT ONLY show and will be full of energy and life. Don’t miss it.

IanFeaturing photographer, Ian Elston, a gifted and detailed engineer who has worked with EdisonBoeingNorthrop Grumman. His eye for detail has made him a worthy candidate for capturing the meticulous facets of a moving dancer. As a distinguished graduate of the University of Southern California and the Art Institute of California – Orange County, Elston has had the honor of photographing numerous subjects, including the USC Repertory Dance Company and USC Chamber Ballet Company. He will be exhibiting a collection of images from these groups.

Karl Benjamin Mural

Our daughter Brooklyn (7), helping artist David Flores with some touch up painting

Visitors ask us all the time about the mural across the street from the Loft. I spot kids walking by it, snapping pictures with their phone. Most of them do not know the significance of the mural or Karl Benjamin was.

The mural, depicting famed artist Karl Benjamin (who recently passed away), was a brainchild of Andi Campognone and Alex Couwenberg, who brought together artist David Flores and the Pomona Arts Commission to create something remarkable for our neighborhood.

Enjoy the short documentary by Hollywood independent filmmaker and photographer Eric Minh Swenson as he tells the story.
