Downtown Pomona is loved by photographers. On any given day, there are photographers shooting in the alley, in front of fountains, in the middle of the train tracks, up against a brick wall or in our Loft.

With north & south facing windows, the unique light that seeps through the windows in our Loft, painting dramatic shadows across the wood floors and the vintage furniture. The soft light from our North facing windows is ideal for portraits, however the dramatic southern light makes for some fabulous artistic shots. The space is large enough to have both or simply move towards the middle of the space and set up studio lighting.

Many of the photographers utilizing the space fall in love with the furniture. Feel free to move a few things around push your shoot to tell a story.

Art Walk: Vicky Thomas

Vicky Thomas | Jewelry / Sculpture / Watercolor

Vicky began her career in jewelry making in a high school class at Claremont High, and then went on to earn her Associates Degree in Commercial and Fine Arts from Citrus College. She has worked as a production hand design jeweler at Figg Jewelry, a company serving stores such as Nordstrom’s and Macy’s. Additionally, She has shown her artwork in mixed media at galleries, stores, and libraries. Vicky has been twice honored by the Friends of Pomona Library as a Master Artist. In 1997, she began teaching at Tri-Community Adult Education as a wire wrap jewelry teacher and expanded her classes to include lapidary, silversmithing and bead stringing. She has taught art through the DA Center for the Arts community outreach program, Artlink, and also taught jewelry making at Hacienda – La Puente Adult education and after school programs for the
Ontario-Montclair School District. Vicky also works as a teaching aid to special need students throughout LA County.

Vicky Thomas will be doing a one night show at the LOFT during Second Saturday Art Walk. She will be showcasing and selling her handmade jewelry, as well as a handful of various mixed media art pieces.

Art Walk: POLYchromatic

May is Student Art Month and the Loft is proud to showcase Sarah DeMonteverde, a student at Azusa Pacific University. 

A reflection of passion for expression, heritage and diverse colors envisioned through the creative process. Polynesian influenced work, embracing color theory and movement, paired with a live performance of traditional Polynesian dance.

Sarah DeMonteverde

Currently a first-year student at Azusa Pacific University, Sarah DeMonteverde is beginning her second year in the Fall of this year. Majoring in Graphic Design, with a passion to help serve in illustrating for a cause; aiding those who want or need more of a voice culturally, spiritually, or even just personally.

Creativity has always been a strongly rooted part of Sarah’s life, but it wasn’t until she started dancing Polynesian dance that she realized how vast her passion for the arts was, as well as the love I had for intertwining culture with fine art. Though not Polynesian, Sarah has made it a point to embrace the culture with an open mind, and a willing artisan’s heart to create her own style that is influenced by both roots of the tradition of the Pacific, and ideas for the future. Whether through the making of art on a canvas, or dancing to colorful rhythms, Sarah expresses wholly her deepest thoughts and understanding of what this life has to offer.

Art Walk: We Journey

Black History Month had its beginnings in 1926 in the United States. The LOFT is proud to celebrate the innovation, art and strength of African Americans past, present and future. For the second year, we present a very special show, We Journey.

We are honored to present new art from Photographer Trellis Evans, Painter John Lee & Metal Sculpturer Dan Romero.

They will all be displaying BRAND NEW works, telling the story of people’s journey.

Trellis Evans of EvansEyePhotography is an editorial fashion photographer working with some of Los Angeles’ most beautiful talent. Last year Trellis made a trip to Ethiopia and was privileged to bring back a beautiful array of photos that warmly share the soul of those he came in contact with. Trellis will display both works side by side, exhibiting both the contrast and similarities of cultures. Both environments instinctly beautiful, yet both uniquely diverse.

John Lee, a seasoned photographer, is displaying a unique flag painting that will speaks of the pain, joy and perseverance many experience throughout the journey. John studied at the Memphis College of Art and is continuing his art education at the University of La Verne. John was co-owner of the innovative TwentyMilesEast gallery in Pomona, which was instrumental in bringing legendary African-American artists from around the globe, right here on our block.

Dan Romero, world-renown Metal Sculpturer, will be presenting a collection of new sculptures entitled “Busting Thru!” A collection of rebar, doorknobs, angst and flight. Dan’s work is featured through Europe. Recently, he worked with various artists in Germany, serving as the US Ambassador. You can find his work locally at the Sam Maalof Museum, the 2nd Street Sculpture Park and in his private studio located at the Pomona Packing Plant.

Henry & 9th Launch

Art Walk: George Pulido

George Pulido

George Pulido was born in Los Angeles and raised in the San Gabriel Valley. George first expressed himself through skateboarding and poetry. At the age of 18 it was with a paintbrush and the encouragement of his best friend, Damon Shindler, that George found his motivation to avoid the pitfalls of his surroundings and set his sights on higher goals.
Before long, he found an audience that was drawn to his work as an artist, and the interest of local collectors/investors allowed him to earn a living on his paintings. With the growing attention of art investors, he began to make a name for himself in the art community throughout the Los Angeles area.

As a newly established local artist, George then made the decision to tour parts of Europe—where he was inspired by the environment, architecture, and cultural vibrancy and incorporated it into his paintings. For months George worked closely with art collectors in Spain who were intrigued by his work.

Today, George prides himself in doing freelance work centered in Southern California. His art can be seen, and has been featured, in various galleries and group showings locally. George’s paintings have also appeared in a number of Hollywood’s popular TV series including “Law and Order” and “Saving Grace” as well as films such as “Yes Man”. In his spare time, George has also given lectures at local colleges that motivate young, aspiring artists to challenge their imagination to reach new heights and explore their own means of self expression.

George is currently a featured artist in his local community, where he has his own gallery open to the public.
